Jake’s Season Record: 10-12

Timing is super important in sports betting, and I lost by the hook last week because of poor timing. For those that may not know, last week I took Michigan at -3.5, and by Saturday that line was down to -2.5. Michigan ended up winning by three points. So hopefully anyone that tailed me got the line at a better number than I did. Just another reminder to buy down to key numbers when necessary. Anyways, onto this week’s college football slate, which looks very intriguing to me. Let’s dive in.

Free Picks for College Football Week 7

Auburn Tigers @ #17 Arkansas Razorbacks: Auburn +4.5 (-110)

12:00 PM ET Saturday, October 16th, 2021

With both the Auburn Tigers and Arkansas Razorbacks sitting at 4-2 on the season, this game means a lot to both programs. The Arkansas Razorbacks had a head of steam early in the season but have since suffered two consecutive losses. Meanwhile, Auburn is coming off a loss to Georgia and lost at #10 Penn State earlier this season. Both teams have lost against Georgia within the past two weeks, and that game film will be important for both sides. The Tigers were actually able to score against Georgia, and I like the fight I have seen from Bo Nix this season. Auburn’s defense was unable to provide much pressure against Georgia though. And the Arkansas Razorbacks' KJ Jefferson is likely the most athletic quarterback this Auburn Tigers defense has seen yet. I’m not sure if Auburn can win this game, but I see this game staying close. Arkansas’ defense gave up 52 points last week, so I expect this to be more of a shootout than a blowout. I’m taking Auburn +4.5 (-105) here, and I think this game comes down to a late field goal.

#10 Michigan State Spartans @ Indiana Hoosiers: Michigan State -4.5 (-105)

12:00 PM ET Saturday, October 16th, 2021

The Indiana Hoosiers have been rather disappointing this year, or at least that is how they look on paper at 2-3. Look closer and you might be able to convince yourself otherwise because of three credible losses against ranked teams. Michigan State is on the opposite side of the conference this year. Sitting at 6-0, the Spartans are making a push in the Big Ten this year. MSU sits atop the Big Ten East with Michigan. But Ohio State is breathing down their necks with just an out-of-conference loss. Michigan State needs every win this season to stay in this conversation. So far, Michigan State hasn’t just won though, they’ve covered in five of six games. Meanwhile, Indiana is 2-3 on the season and has only covered the spread in one game this season. The Spartans offense is powerful behind sophomore Payton Thorne at quarterback. But for the Spartans to cover this week, it will take the defense being on point. MSU defense has allowed 420 yards per game and can’t let the Hoosiers offense get going early this week. I’m riding with Michigan State -4.5 (-105) because I believe the Spartans' offense will pull away and that the defense will have a strong performance. Caesars Sportsbook RF5000 - 936x114

#12 Oklahoma State Cowboys @ #25 Texas Longhorns: Over 60.5 (-105)

12:00 PM ET Saturday, October 16th, 2021

If there is one thing that never seems to change about the Big 12, it is that the games will always be high-scoring. Now, Oklahoma State has been underwhelming to this note by playing games that only total in the 40s or 50s all season. However, Texas has kept this narrative strong. I mean the Longhorns did score 70 points against Texas Tech just a few weeks ago and scored 48 points in a loss last week! Texas may not know defense, but they know the offense, averaging 44.5 points per game this season. It’s a large part of why Texas is favored at -4 over Oklahoma State this weekend. I’m staying away from the point spread though and am instead looking at the total points sitting at 60.5. I’ve already mentioned that the Longhorns have shown the capability to surpass that score on their own. I’m jumping on Over 60.5 (-110) because I’m really shocked this line is not three points higher to get above a ninth touchdown. Jump on this before it changes by Saturday.

Alabama Crimson Tide @ Mississippi State Bulldogs: Alabama -16.5 (-120)

3:30 PM ET Saturday, October 16th, 2021

I should start this by saying none of this will be Mississippi State’s fault. This is purely a revenge game for Alabama after losing to Texas A&M last week.  Coincidentally, the last time that Alabama lost in the regular season was in 2019, and the Crimson Tide beat Mississippi State 38-7 that next week. Before that, it was a Week 3 loss to Ole Miss, and the next week Alabama won 34-0 over Louisiana-Monroe.  Basically, to paraphrase South Park, if you are going to play Alabama the week after they lost, you are going to have a bad time. Alabama is -16.5 at the book right now, and I would be running to take that while it is under 17 points. This has the potential to be a situation where Nick Saban uses an SEC team as a four-quarter practice. I expect to see the offense run the score up every chance they have and the defense to come in looking to shut out the Bulldogs after allowing 41 points last week. I’ll be on Alabama all the way to 21 points and potentially even higher. I have no faith in Mississippi State this weekend, and that’s not the Bulldogs’ fault. No one expected Texas A&M to upset Alabama, and now Mississippi State will face the repercussions of it. Again, I’m all over Alabama -16.5 (-115).

Jake's Stay Away Games

So, there are my four picks for this week. As for my stay-away games, my gut tells me to stay away from UCF @ #3 Cincinnati, #19 BYU @ Baylor, and #11 Kentucky @ #1 Georgia. I don’t like any of these three lines, and BYU as an underdog by nearly a full touchdown raised red flags in my mind. These games may all be entertaining to watch, but my money won’t be near them.
