The NBA Superstars of the Future: Who Will Win?

Luka Dončić and Trae Young go head-to-head in the State Farm Arena, and Vegas has the spread Mavericks -6 and the over/under set at 240.5. Both teams have been struggling in their last ten, coming off an All-Star break. I believe both teams, featuring these future NBA superstars, will come fresh and ready to battle for a nail-biter. Luka Dončić, the 20-year-old of Slovenia, has been in the MVP conversation all season, averaging 29 points, 9 rebounds, and 8 assists a game… that’s absurd. When watching him, he’s always calm, cool, and collected, with the IQ of a 35-year-old veteran point guard.

Trae Young, on the other hand, is putting up better shooting numbers than Steph Curry did early in his career. And he is coming off a career-high 50 points against the Miami Heat. Trae Young is averaging 30 points and 10 assists and will look to stay hot. Speaking of hot, the Atlanta Hawks in 13 of their last 17 games have hit the over, and the line is set at a HIGH 240.5. The Mavericks are also scorching hot with the over hitting in all of their last 7 games.

With the Mavericks fully healthy, I think they’ll start off well and take advantage of the Hawks’ lack of size outside of John Collins (an up-and-coming star from Georgia Tech) with Capela still out with an injury. With that said, the over is at 240.5, and, with the history between these two teams falling under the last 3 times they’ve faced, I’m going to lean with the under tonight, and take the Mavericks -3 First Half.

The Hawks are known to chuck their way back into games with Young and the redhead from Maryland, Kevin Huerter. Tonight, we will see who has a better pick n’ roll combo: Dallas – Luka & Porziņģis – or Atlanta – Trae & Collins. The Mavs are the better-coached team. Rick Carlisle will have some schemes up his sleeve, look for double team blitzes on any screens for Trae Young, and force the young role-players for the Hawks to make plays.

I think Mavs will have a comfortable start and win the first half with ease. And the head-to-head trend for the under (240.5) between the two will happen due to great defense from the Mavericks.
