LeBron goes for 46 in his return to Cleveland. I still lost because they didn’t cover the spread. Joel Embiid has a sudden back spasm two hours before game time. I lose money on the Sixers. Monday was a day where nothing seemed to go right for my picks and I apologize, but if you follow Zach to the Rack religiously, I know that my decent record thus far in this NBA season can garner a shit day like the 25th – and I hope you don’t want to smack me in the balls like Jamal Murray did Tim Hardaway Jr. [embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Q7zGkOhI2w&feature=emb_title[/embed] Monday is gone and today’s picks are gonna settle my queasiness and I’m taking two teams that are a virtual lock to get us back on track as we say goodbye to January like we were Jon Hamm dissing Betty Draper on Mad Men. (Betty Draper was played by January Jones on the show! Get it?) Sorry. Let’s hope that these uneasy NBA injuries, protocols, and upsets start to level off and we can rely on our knowledge more than our current state of the world. Today, we set our sites on the matchups between the Boston Celtics and San Antonio Spurs and between the Denver Nuggets and Miami Heat.

Boston Celtics vs. San Antonio Spurs: Boston -3.5 (-120)

Point Total: Under 225.5 Points (-136)

Ray Donovan once famously said, “There’s nothing left for me in Boston.” Well, after Jayson Tatum missed six games this month due to COVID-19 protocols and the Celtics dropped in the NBA power rankings, he may have had a point. But not now. For my money, a healthy Boston team is unbeatable, and now that Tatum is back and rested, they’re gonna go all “Ray Donovan” and get to fixin’ things. I know the Spurs can be excellent on some nights, but when I watched Jaylen Brown score 33 points in under 19 minutes, it made me think that when Tatum and Brown are healthy they can’t be stopped. But wait – what about Patty Mills, right? He’s a beast on the Spurs all of a sudden! He can’t miss! He actually makes me think that his perimeter defense can shut down the Tatum-Brown arsenal… And with LaMarcus inside? And DeMar? I dunno… I am nervous, and I see why this game is predicted to be close, but I feel like the Celtics are too determined to get back to their winning ways today – Take Boston. Point total-wise, 225.5 is a reach even though these teams are capable. If this game goes into OT, the over is a lock, but I still see the Celtics taking this one and possibly keeping the Spurs under 105 points. If the Celtics score 110 – we have an under– which is where I’m leaning. William Hill RF500 - 728x90

Denver Nuggets vs. Miami Heat: Denver -4.5 (-129)

Point Total: Under 223 (-157)

What Bam Adebayo has been doing the past few games in Miami is unconscionable. He seems to hit everything, from buzzer-beaters to “and one” inside chuck shots to fall away 3s. Yet, the Heat keep losing. They barely scored 85 against the Brooklyn Nets on Monday. The “bubble fluke” label is starting to stick, and I’m gonna stop myself before I make a joke about Jimmy Butler’s coffee business. And what about those Heat uniforms last week that looked like cups of Yoplait Raspberry Trix Yogurt? Yikes. Now the struggling Miami Heat face the 10-7 Denver Nuggets, who are coming off of a big victory over Dallas where Michael Porter came alive. The Heat match up well with Jokić and Porter and Murray when Bam, Butler, and Herro are playing well…the problem is, Miami is not playing well. What is going on down in Magic City? Was Jae Crowder the straw that stirred this drink before he took off in the off-season? Call Sonny Crockett and Rico Tubbs from Miami Vice, maybe they can find some clues… I like the Nuggets winning and covering the spread here. Points-wise – that 85 spot Monday against the Nets is concerning. I can’t see the Heat scoring 40 more two nights later. I’d take the under here – thinking that 223 is high even though Denver is the 4th-highest-scoring team in the league at 116. I don’t see the Heat matching that number for now. There you have it, friends. I must avenge my Monday… if I don’t, I will make a viral video of me lip-syncing “Smuggler’s Blues” from the Miami Vice soundtrack. RIP Glenn Frey.
