Smart Money NFL Week 2 Picks For 9/19/2021
|SF & DET Under 45.5
Anthony's Season Record: 2-1
What a great way to kick off the NFL. Not only did I finish profitable with these picks, but there were some great games over the weekend. If you went heavy on the underdogs, then you absolutely feasted this week. If by chance you had the balls to parlay those upsets, then you’re most likely on a yacht somewhere and definitely not reading this.
The Miami game went as I predicted. It was a tight, low-scoring affair that came down to the wire. If Damien Harris didn’t cough it up in the red zone, then there's a good chance I’d be sitting at 1-2. But that didn’t happen – so let’s count our cash and carry on.
I usually don’t bet my favorite team, but seeing that spread sitting at -3, I had to take it. Denver’s defense looked much improved as they made Daniel Jones’ afternoon a living hell. He was constantly under pressure and eventually lost a fumble, which is nothing new for him. The Broncos’ offense looked surprisingly smooth with Teddy Bridgewater under center. The Broncos look to have finally found a solution for the quarterback situation...for now.
My one blemish of the week – the under on the Lions and 49ers game. Not only did this game absolutely smash the over, but also it was the highest-scoring game of the slate. There was a ton of garbage time scoring by the Lions, which didn't help my cause, but yeah..not great.
With Week 1 in the books, it's time to keep this baby rolling and take a look at Week 2. So these are my favorite picks for Sunday’s slate.
Smart Money NFL Week 2 Picks For 9/19/2021
Last week was not great for starting rookie quarterbacks, so let’s continue to fade them. Although Jones and Wilson now have a professional start under their belt, I think they still struggle to get things going on offense. Belichick is not going to lose back-to-back divisional games. So I see the Patriots leaning run-heavy and focusing on time of possession to grind out a win on the road. That fumble by Harris last game does give me some pause, but instead of abandoning the run game, I think we just see more of the veteran James White.
As for the Jets, Zach Wilson didn't look too bad last week against Carolina. The problem is that offense is just not explosive. They don't have big play potential. So I don't see them generating many points against this New England defense. This is going to be one of those games where most drives fizzle out and the punters see a lot of action. Final Score 24-10, UNDER.
Get ready to power-bomb your buddy through a burning table because Bills Mafia is going to bounce back BIG this week. Despite running more plays, having more yards, and controlling time of possession, the Bills couldn't pull it off against the Steelers. This week, the Buffalo Bills are on the road against a Miami Dolphins team that just beat Bill Belichick in his own house. This -3.5 spread is laughable. The Bills are going to show why they dominated the AFC East last year. They are by far the better team and will cover this -3.5 with ease.
If you watched last week's game, there were multiple times Josh Allen signaled McDermott to go for it on 4th down but he sent out the punting unit instead. I think this week you'll see a more aggressive game plan. Josh Allen should also see more use as a runner in these spots. Miami is overmatched in every way. Last week they won the turnover battle, but that won't be the case this week. The Bills’ defense is top five and will be all over Tua in the backfield. The last time these two teams played, the Buffalo Bills outscored this Miami Dolphins team by 30 points! Final Score 38-17, BILLS.
The Bengals take on Chicago in this revenge game for Andy Dalton. The Bears are coming off a loss against the Rams where they were manhandled by Aaron Donald and that defense. The good news for the Red Rifle is that the Bengals’ defense is one of the worst in the league; the bad news is they have a young, talented offense with momentum behind them. Cincinnati has a ton of playmakers and should certainly be able to make enough opportunities to squeak by with a win here.
This moneyline is more of a fade Andy Dalton than a back Joe Burrow play. If you watched last week’s game, Dalton threw a pick in the red zone on the first drive – he’s playing on borrowed time. The Justin Fields chants from fans will surely be at full force Sunday. Sure, I could play it safe here and take the +1, but if the sportsbooks are giving me plus odds to fade Andy Dalton – I’m taking it every time. Final Score 20-17, BENGALS.
