Unfortunately, we had our first losing week. It’s not a great feeling, but I can't be too disappointed – I’m up A LOT on these NHL picks. In a way, I’m kind of glad to get my first losing week over with. Let’s recap this bummer of a Thursday.
The Islanders once again trolled me on the puck line. They started out hot – leading by two goals just 8 minutes into the first period. I thought for the first time I might actually break through with this one. Spoiler alert – I didn’t. I don't give up though, I will win a bet on the Islanders, and when I do, there will be one hell of a party. That Bruins and Capitals game really confused me. The Capitals are the better team, but boy did the Bruins come out HOT. I saw the writing on the wall when they managed to score short-handed in the early minutes of the second period. The Senators and Oilers game was the only game I won. I still can't believe that line came in at 6.5 for the over. Looking at their recent stats, this was pretty much free money.
After this poor showing, I couldn't wait until Thursday to drop my next batch of winners. It’s a small slate, but I expect BIG things this week. My record shines at 15-7 and I'm looking for another set of winners. Let’s look at my favorite NHL picks for Tuesday.
Smart Money NHL Picks For 4/13/2021
Not going to overthink this week. I’ve been on unders a lot lately, but we're going to switch it up. The Rangers are going to win this game. Sure, I could take the -175 on the moneyline, but I’m looking at this over instead. While they’re 5-5 on the over in the last ten games, the Rangers are top ten in average goals per game. They can light it up at any time. What really grabs my attention is how the Devils are trending lately. In the last ten games, the over on six goals has been hit seven times. Despite being ranked in the bottom of the league in average goals so far this season, they are scoring rather consistently. They are allowing over three goals per game, and as long as they can slap in 2-3 goals tonight, I think this over gets crushed. It’s going to be nice rooting for an over for a change.
You know how I just said I’m not going to overthink it this week? I’m carrying over that mentality to this game. This is a lopsided match, to say the least. Including the most recent upset over the Oilers last game, the Flames have won just two games in their last ten. I could take the Leafs on the moneyline and call it a day, but I hate the -170 odds.
The Leafs are ranked top five in average goals per game at 3.37. I think they will score 5 tonight. They are currently on a nine-game winning streak and they will win here in a big way. When the Flames lose, they really lose. If you look at their last four losses, it has been by at least two goals three times. They have a below-average offense and they are giving up an average of three goals per game. Take this puck line and enjoy the easy win.
I love this puck line
for the Buffalo Sabres against the Boston Bruins. Despite coming into the game with a 10-25 record, they are keeping it close in recent games. Over the last ten games, they are 8-2 on the puck line. Both of these teams rank in the bottom half of the league when looking at average goals per game – I don't expect a blowout on either side.
Now that I’m looking a little closer, I could see the Sabres winning this outright. They are coming off a late rally win against the Flyers, and I think they could carry that momentum into this game. What the hell – I'm feeling crazy, let’s take the Sabres to win this thing
. Let’s bounce back in a big way.
